Green Leader Elizabeth May has won her party's nomination for the riding of Saanich-Gulf Islands, north of Victoria. (CBC) Green Party Leader Elizabeth May has won her party's nomination to run in the B.C. riding of Saanich-Gulf Islands in the next federal election.
"It is so heartening to receive such an overwhelming vote of confidence from the grassroots of our membership," May said Saturday.
May said she's ready to get on with a campaign to win a seat in Parliament.
May was fighting for the nomination against Stuart Hertzog, who has filed a complaint with Elections Canada. Hertzog alleges that money was illegally transferred to the party to help May win the nomination.
Saanich-Gulf Islands has been held for 12 years by Conservative Gary Lunn, minister of state for sport.
May will make a second attempt to beat a cabinet minister. Last October, she ran in the Nova Scotia riding of Central Nova but lost to Defence Minister Peter MacKay.
