Ernie 'Punch' McLean missing in B.C. wilderness

Hockey coaching legend Ernie (Punch) McLean, in a 1985 photo, has been reported missing in northern B.C. (CBC)A well-known B.C. amateur hockey coach has gone missing while working on a gold claim in a mountainous area of the province.
Ernie (Punch) McLean, 77, was last seen on the weekend near a property he was surveying in the Dease Lake area of northern B.C., about 500 kilometres southeast of Whitehorse, according to an RCMP news release Wednesday.
The area is mountainous and remote, accessible only by all-terrain vehicle and by air, police said.
RCMP officers, the force's canine unit, search and rescue personnel, and staff from the B.C. Forest Service are actively involved in the search, the release said.
McLean coached the New Westminster Bruins to back-to-back Memorial Cup victories in the late 1970s.
