RCMP were on the scene after a officer shot a 46-year-old man in an industrial area of Surrey, B.C., Tuesday evening. (CBC)Police have confirmed a man shot by an RCMP officer in Surrey, B.C., on Tuesday night has died from his injuries.
Kenneth Keith Baines, 46, died just after 4 p.m. PT Wednesday. Police said he was shot once in either the head or the neck.
Police allege the man, who was known to police, was attempting to flee in a stolen car by ramming a police cruiser when an officer with two years' experience drew his gun and fired.
Police did not confirm how many shots were fired, but witnesses reported hearing between six and eight shots.
The shooting took place at a warehouse complex in the 12600 block of 80 Avenue in Surrey, where police say they were doing surveillance on an unrelated matter.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team is the lead investigative unit. IHIT is mandated to conduct investigations into police-involved shootings.
