Police have recommended that RCMP Cpl. Benjamin Robinson, shown in February, 2005, be charged in connection with a fatal crash. (CBC) Police say they've finished their investigation into a fatal traffic collision and are recommending two charges against an RCMP officer who was also involved in striking Robert Dziekanski with a stun gun at Vancouver's airport.
Police in Delta, B.C., say they have forwarded a report to the Crown about the Oct. 25, 2008, crash that took the life of Orion Hutchinson, 21.
Police are now awaiting approval of charges of impaired driving causing death and dangerous driving causing death against RCMP officer Cpl. Benjamin (Monty) Robinson.
The officer was off-duty when his vehicle collided with Hutchinson's motorcycle.
Robinson, who had two children in his car, left the scene of the collision. Delta police arrested him a short time later and took him into custody, where he failed a breathalyzer test.
Robinson later told police he got drunk immediately after the accident.
Orion Hutchinson, 21, was killed when a Jeep collided with his motorcycle in Delta, B.C. (CBC) He said in the 10 minutes he was gone from the scene, he had two shots of vodka. Robinson maintained those two shots drove his blood-alcohol level beyond the legal limit.
Robinson was one of four officers involved in a confrontation with Dziekanski at Vancouver airport in October, 2007, during which Dziekanski was shocked with a Taser and died.
Robinson and the other three officers do not face charges in relation to Dziekanski's death.
