Human skeletal remains were found Friday on an undeveloped parcel of land in Nanaimo, B.C., police said.

A couple interested in buying the lot came across the remains and called the RCMP, Const. Gary O'Brien said.

Forensic investigators spent most of Friday afternoon at the scene looking for evidence.

"Based on evidence found at site, our officers believe the remains are human and there is no indication at this time of foul play," O'Brien said in a release.

The remains were sent to the RCMP forensics laboratory in Vancouver for further analysis.

Investigators will be checking active missing person files, once the analysis is complete, to see whether the dead person had been reported missing, O'Brien said.
