Three men were arrested and charged on the weekend in connection with a slaying and an assault in Langley, B.C., in March, police said Monday.
The homicide occurred on March 28 outside a residence in the 24400 block of Fraser Highway. Kyle Llewellyn Barber, 24, of Aldergrove, was found stabbed and was taken to a local hospital but later died from his injuries.
Albert Jacob Jackman, 22, was charged with first-degree murder in Barber's death, while Gregory Michael Barrett, 30, was charged with second-degree murder in the same case, RCMP Cpl. Dale Carr said Monday.
'I'm confident that recent arrests and any that may occur in the near future will have a significant impact on the scope of the Red Scorpions and other gangs.'— Supt. Dan Malo, B.C. Integrated Gang Force
The pair were arrested Friday, and police had said an apparent altercation took place in the Fraser Highway residence and led to the stabbing.
Police allege Jackman is an associate of the Red Scorpions and Bacon brothers gangs, which are known for their involvement in Metro Vancouver's illegal drug trade.
Jackman was also charged with one count each of aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, and forcible confinement in the March 8 beating of Tyler Willock, 27, RCMP said Monday.
Police were called to a home in the 2100 block of 86 Avenue, where Willock was discovered.
Wesley Edward Kelemen, 22, was charged with one count of aggravated assault stemming from the same attack, police said.
Police allege Kelemen is also an associate of the two B.C. gangs. He was arrested Friday.
"They underscore what we have frequently said about individuals associated to gangs. They are allies one minute and enemies the next," Supt. Dan Malo of the B.C. Integrated Gang Force said of the arrests of Jackman and Kelemen.
"I'm confident that recent arrests and any that may occur in the near future will have a significant impact on the scope of the Red Scorpions and other gangs," Malo said in a news release.
