Infant's body found inside plastic bag in Vancouver's eastside

Police officers are combing a Vancouver eastside neighbourhood after discovering the body of an infant. (Submitted by Pascal Marchand) The body of an infant was found wrapped in a plastic bag Thursday in a yard between two houses in Vancouver's eastside neighbourhood, police said.
A resident in the 2500 block of Charles Street, near the intersection of Kamloops Street, called 911 around 11:20 a.m. PT after discovering a "figure inside the bag," said Const. Jana McGuinness of the Vancouver police.
Police described the death as "suspicious" and are appealing to the mother of the infant, or anyone who may know her, to contact police, McGuinness said.
The Vancouver police major crimes unit and the Coroners Service of British Columbia are investigating.
Police blocked off the residential neighbourhood near the corner of Nanaimo Street and Hastings Street behind yellow police tape.
Investigators were expected to be on the scene for the rest of the day and do not expect to release any more information before Friday morning, McGuinness said.
Police have no reason to suspect the body is connected to anyone in the neighbourhood, she said.
