Police cordoned off the area around Saturday morning's fatal shooting. (CBC)Police have identified the woman who was killed in what is believed to be a targeted shooting over the weekend in Langley.
The body of 36-year-old Laura Lynn Lamoureux was found on the side of the road at 202 A Street and 50th Avenue early Saturday morning.
The RCMP Integrated Homicide Investigation Team said it believes Lamoureux was killed because of her street level involvement in the drug trade.
"Her friends and associates are all the transient type so it's going to be difficult for police to track down and speak to all of them," said Cpl. Dale Carr. "That's something that's primary for us to do, find out what her last movements are."
The RCMP responded after residents told police they heard a number of shots and a vehicle driving away from the area at about 5 a.m. Saturday.
This was the Lower Mainland's 16th shooting death of the year and the second shooting in less than 24 hours.
A man in his 20s was seriously wounded in a shooting in Surrey on Friday evening. The unidentified victim is expected to survive.
The two shootings bring to 35 the total number in the Metro Vancouver area since January.
