The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has issued a warning about some beef products sold in several stores across B.C., saying there is a fear some may be contaminated with E. coli.

Officials said ground beef, burgers and stuffed peppers sold at Thrifty Food Stores may be affected by the bacteria and warned consumers to check whether they have been recalled.

The CFIA warned that contaminated food may not look or smell spoiled but can cause serious illnesses, including abdominal pain, bloody diarrhea, seizures or strokes.

Retailers have voluntarily recalled the affected products.
