Police search for clues after a man was shot near the intersection of E 12th Avenue and St. Catherines Street in Vancouver on Sunday night. (CBC)One man is recovering from critical injuries following a shooting just east of Fraser Street in East Vancouver around 10:30 p.m. Sunday.
Residents reported hearing as many as 10 gunshots near East 12th Avenue and St. Catherines Street, police said.
But when officers arrived, the victim was gone, police said. The victim later turned up at a local hospital seeking treatment, they said.
The 29-year-old man underwent surgery Monday morning and was in stable condition, police said.
The man was previously known to police, but it was too early to say if the incident was related to criminal gang activity, they said.
The shooting was Metro Vancouver's 13th this month. So far, seven of those shootings have been fatal. Police have linked most to gang violence.
The shooting follows a rally on Sunday at which many people called for the criminal justice system to crack down on gun violence and criminal gangs.
