All elementary and secondary schools in the city of Vancouver will remain open during the 2010 Winter Olympics, the school board decided Monday.
School trustees approved two motions at a Monday night meeting, keeping all schools in session during the Vancouver Games and preparing for a transportation strategy for students and staff.
Many parents and school board officials had voiced their reservations about any proposal to cancel or reschedule classes.
Some schools in West Vancouver, Whistler and Squamish have decided to move their spring break from March 2010 to February 2010, during the Games.
Other schools in Delta, Richmond and Surrey will remain open, while school boards in Burnaby, Coquitlam and North Vancouver will make decisions later this month. New Westminster will make its decision through an online survey that will be launched soon.
School districts have until May 31 to decide.
The 2010 Winter Olympic Games will be held in Vancouver, Richmond, West Vancouver and Whistler from Feb. 12 to 28.
