Police are investigating two separate stabbing deaths in Metro Vancouver early Sunday.

The first happened just before 1 a.m. PT in Richmond, a suburb about 13 kilometres south of Vancouver.

Richmond RCMP were called to the 11000 block of Cambie Road, where they found a 23-year-old man suffering from what appeared to be stab wounds, said Cpl. Dale Carr of the Lower Mainland's Integrated Homicide Investigation Team.Richards Street, between Helmcken and Nelson streets, was closed to traffic Sunday as police investigated a stabbing death in downtown Vancouver.Richards Street, between Helmcken and Nelson streets, was closed to traffic Sunday as police investigated a stabbing death in downtown Vancouver. He was treated at the scene briefly and then taken to hospital where he died, Carr said.

Two men were arrested, and police are trying to determine whether they are linked to the death, he said.

"There was a report earlier in the evening, closer to midnight, about an assault that Richmond RCMP attended and looked into, so those two males that were spoken to have been arrested."

Investigators will continue to collect evidence at the scene throughout Sunday, Carr said.

Burnaby man stabbed outside Vancouver nightclub

Tyson Edwards, a 21-year-old from Burnaby, died in the second stabbing, outside the nightclub Richards on Richards in downtown Vancouver at approximately 2:30 a.m. PT Sunday.

The suspects fled the scene, said Const. Tim Fanning of the Vancouver Police Department. Police have not made any arrests or discovered a weapon.

Fanning said police have interviewed more than 30 witnesses, and will continue to conduct interviews and canvass the scene Sunday.

"There is video in the club itself, so we will be reviewing that in detail. We'll have our search and canvass team out like we do on any major crime," Fanning said.

"They will be scouring the neighbourhood for any physical evidence, they will be looking for any businesses, or apartment buildings [or] condo buildings that have video surveillance that may have captured the suspects running away."

It appears the stabbing was a random act of violence, Fanning said.

Edwards was not known to police, and it's believed he did not know the suspects.

Richards Street between Helmcken and Nelson streets will be closed Sunday while police investigate.
