Charges have officially been laid against two off-duty municipal police officers who allegedly assaulted a newspaper delivery man outside a downtown Vancouver hotel on Jan. 21.

New Westminster Const. Jeffrey Roger Klassen was charged with assault by B.C.'s Crown prosecutors on Wednesday.

But a charge of possession of stolen property that was also recommended by Vancouver police was not approved.

West Vancouver police Const. Griffin Gillan was charged with robbery in the incident.

Both officers have been suspended with pay and are due to appear in court in Vancouver on Feb. 9 at 9 a.m.

No charges were recommended against the Delta police officer involved in the incident.

The victim, 47-year-old Phil Khan, has previously alleged he was beaten by all three officers and that they stole $200 from him.
