Fire crews continued to work Saturday morning to put out a deadly blaze in a North Vancouver apartment building. (Devon Goodsell/CBC) Fire crews continued Saturday to battle an intense apartment fire in North Vancouver that has claimed one life.
The blaze was reported to police at 10:14 p.m. PT Friday, according to an RCMP news release.
Police arrived at the wood-frame apartment building, located at 1033 St. Georges Ave., within minutes and found the third-floor hallway already filling with thick smoke.
Firefighters had a tough time battling the blaze, the release said, because the building was extremely dangerous and unstable.

Two firefighters were injured, and at least five residents as well as three police officers were treated for smoke inhalation.
There were more than 35 people living in the building, and the North Shore Emergency Management Office is working to provide shelter for the displaced residents, many of whom are elderly.
The cause of the fire has not been determined, RCMP said, but it will be treated as suspicious until proven otherwise.
