An international website is connecting the homeless in several western Canadian cities with people wanting to donate gifts at Christmas.

In one case, a Calgary man named Jose will get a pair of size-9 workboots.

A spokeswoman for the Calgary Drop In Centre said www.homelesspartners.com is an easy way for people to share their Christmas generosity with those less fortunate.

Louise Gallagher said people can look at the website and decide who to help. Each person on the site goes by a first name and initial, and there is a short description of their lives and what they would like for Christmas.

"People want a size-12 boots or they want a warm winter jacket, or they want phone cards or bus tickets," she said. "It's a really powerful way to connect on an individual level with our clients."

The website also allows users to send messages to individual homeless people.

The program, which has connected nearly 700 homeless people with donors, is running in nine cities in Canada and the U.S., including Calgary, Vancouver, Kelowna, Regina.
