Sakic to miss minimum 6 weeks of NHL action
Avalanche captain suffered herniated disc in back in recent loss to Coyotes

The Colorado Avalanche captain was injured during his first shift in Friday's 2-1 loss at Phoenix.
Sakic, 39, first strained his back in a weight-room session that caused him to miss a Nov. 6 game against Minnesota. He returned Nov. 8 versus Nashville and sat the following five NHL contests.
"I'm comfortable with the plan going forward and will work as hard as I always have in order to return to the lineup," Sakic said in a news release.
Avalanche general manager Francois Giguere said team medical personnel will prescribe a treatment program for the 19-year NHLer to speed up his recovery process.
"Our team physicians are confident that this course of action is the best for Joe at this point in time," said Giguere.
In August, Sakic signed a one-year deal worth $6 million US in hopes of capturing a third Stanley Cup championship.
The 13-time all-star is fifth in Colorado scoring this season with two goals and 12 points in 15 games.
Sakic, from Burnaby, B.C., was drafted by the Quebec Nordiques in 1987 and has spent his entire career with the organization.
Sakic has scored 625 goals and 1,016 assists in 1,378 career regular-season games.
