Police want to speak to Shane Steven Gidon, 21, of Chilliwack, about a string of armed robberies in Surrey, B.C. (RCMP) Police have named a 21-year-old man and want to speak to him about six armed robberies that happened earlier this month in north Surrey, B.C.
Surrey RCMP have received more than 50 tips from the public following the release of surveillance videotapes of two of the robberies, Sgt. Roger Morrow said Friday.
The robberies occurred between Nov. 15 and 17 at night and targeted convenience stores or service stations.
In the last robbery, two employees at the Tempo gas station at 108th Avenue and Scott Road were both shot in the stomach, but their injuries were not life-threatening.
On another occasion, one employee followed the robber outside and a series of shots rang out. He was not injured.
"While investigators have been working on the tips provided to date, one individual has been identified whom police would like to locate and speak with: Shane Steven Gidon of Chilliwack," Morrow said in a news release.
Police are calling Gidon a "person of interest" with regards to the robberies.
"Investigators are asking that Mr. Gidon attend the Surrey detachment of the RCMP to address this issue."
Police also are asking for the public's assistance in finding Gidon, but "it's being suggested that the public not approach this individual," Morrow said.
