Gas well burns out of control in northeastern B.C.

A ConocoPhillips natural gas well caught fire in northeastern B.C. on Tuesday. (ConocoPhillips Canada)A ConocoPhillips Canada gas well is burning out of control in a remote area of northeastern B.C. near Chetwynd, the company says.
The company said in a news release that it doesn't know how long it will take to get control of the fire, which broke out early Tuesday morning.
The flames are visible from Highway 97. A rig crew has been removed from the site, but no injuries have been reported.
The company said it has set up roadblocks and air monitoring stations in the area.
It's the second ConocoPhillips gas well fire in the area in a year. In December 2007, a fire at a well near Tumbler Ridge burned for several weeks.
The fire occurred during routine operations and was not related to three explosions in October at nearby EnCana facilities, which police suspect were deliberately set, ConocoPhillips said.
