A cyclist suffered a fractured hip and bruises after being hit by a vehicle Tuesday afternoon in downtown Vancouver. (CBC) Police are looking for a black 1992 Toyota and its driver, whom they believe was involved in two hit-and-runs in downtown Vancouver Wednesday.
Two men in their 30s were taken to hospital after being injured in two separate collisions around 4 p.m., Vancouver police Const. Tim Fanning said Thursday.
A black vehicle travelling southbound on Thurlow Street collided with a cyclist at the intersection of Nelson and Thurlow streets, Fanning said.
The cyclist, who was thrown off his bike, suffered a fractured hip, scrapes and bruises to the left side of his head, Fanning said.
Witnesses told police the vehicle passed through a red light and didn't stop following the collision.
Another cyclist was hit a short while later at the intersections of Thurlow and Comox streets. He, too, was thrown off the bike and landed next to a fire hydrant on the northwest corner, Fanning said.
A black vehicle was seen speeding off westbound on Comox Street, and police were able to obtain a licence plate number from witnesses.
"The registered owner of that vehicle is known to police for previous driving infractions, which may be relevant to this case here," Fanning said.
Police have not released the licence plate number, and the investigation continues, Fanning said.
