The Spirit of British Columbia was taken out of service Sunday because of a mechanical problem. (CBC)Two BC Ferries sailings between Swartz Bay and Tsawwassen were cancelled Sunday due to mechanical problems.
Officials said problems with the propeller on the Spirit of British Columbia forced the cancellations of the 11 a.m. sailing from Tsawwassen, south of Vancouver, and the 1 p.m. sailing from Swartz Bay, north of Victoria.
Officials said reservation holders on the cancelled sailings would be accommodated on the next available sailings.
The vessel is expected to be back in service Sunday afternoon, officials said.
The latest breakdown comes just three weeks after a broken propeller forced the same vessel out of service for three days, which caused six-hour lineups on the Vancouver-Victoria route.
BC Ferries vice-president of public affairs, Mark Stefanson, said it is a different propeller problem than the one that plagued the Spirit of British Columbia in late August.
