Police say two people were killed when a truck crashed through a Maple Ridge sushi restaurant, coming to a stop in the kitchen. (CBC) RCMP say two women were killed and several others were injured when a truck slammed into a crowded sushi restaurant in Maple Ridge around 6 p.m. PT Thursday.
Witnesses said the truck drove through the front window and ended up in the rear kitchen of the Halu Sushi restaurant, which is located in a strip mall on the Lougheed Highway at 203rd Street.
There were around 45 people inside the restaurant at the time of the crash, Ridge Meadows RCMP said. Several people were injured, including three people who were rushed to the hospital with critical injuries.
Police took the 52-year-old Maple Ridge male driver into custody, and the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team had been called in, but police were still attempting to determine the cause of the crash, they said.
