RCMP removed the body of Bhupinder Singh Benning, 27, after investigators combed the area in the 4200 block of Portland Street in Burnaby on Saturday afternoon. (CBC)A man shot and killed in Burnaby, B.C., on Saturday morning has been identified as Bhupinder Singh Benning, 27, of Richmond.
Benning was shot on the roadside after he left a friend's home in the 4200 block of Portland Street in south Burnaby, RCMP said Sunday.
"Police feel that this incident has all of the indicators of a targeted shooting. However, that has yet to be confirmed," said Cpl. Dale Carr of the Lower Mainlaind's Integrated Homicide Investigation Team in a news release.
Residents reported hearing gunshots at about 3 a.m. When police arrived, they found Benning dead on the roadway.
Carr said Benning was known to police and police believed he had links to organized crime in the Lower Mainland.
