CBC Meteorologist Claire Martin says La Nina is to blame for the cooler weather. (CBC News)Warm weather is expected just in time for the Victoria Day long weekend, according to CBC meteorologist Claire Martin.
Temperatures will rise dramatically this week, reaching 27 C by the weekend.
However, Martin said that warm weather is not likely to last.
"June and July, it [La Nina] is still around, so don't put any hopes up for a really nice end to spring and a nice summer. I just don't think it's going to happen," she said.
Warmer weather this weekend is a relief to gardeners after an unusually chilly April, said Scott Pearce of GardenWorks.
"There's no question people are taking their time planting the tender plants," he said.
Last month was the coldest April in nearly 40 years, with temperatures two to three degrees cooler than normal.
"It is turning out to be a very typical La Nina spring," Martin said. "La Nina tends to cool us off and it has done so quite dramatically."
Records broke in Victoria last month with 12.2 cm of snowfall compared to the previous record of 7.1 cm set in 1955.
Kelowna hit an all-time low on April 21 when the temperature dropped to -11 C.
