Five schools in Surrey have returned to normal operation after a police incident led to a lockdown Thursday afternoon.

Maple Green, Janice Churchill, Green Timbers and Brookside elementary schools and Enver Creek Secondary School were all locked down as a precaution because of a police incident in the neighbourhood.

RCMP officers were visiting a home near 84th Avenue and 144th Street in Surrey in relation to a criminal investigation when officers heard what they thought was the sound of a shotgun racking.

Police left the residence and called the Emergency Response Team and local schools were put in lockdown.

The incident ended shortly after 1 p.m. PT and schools returned to normal.

Four people are in custody following the incident but no charges have been laid.
