Much of Metro Vancouver woke up to 10 to 30 centimetres of fresh snow Tuesday morning, prompting many local schools to close and slowing traffic on most commuter routes.
The snowfall is expected to continue throughout the morning rush hour and may turn to rain in the Vancouver area later in the day.
Metro Vancouver commuters who depend on the West Coast Express train to get them to work may have to make other plans after a CP Rail train derailed just east of the Iron Workers Memorial Bridge.
That means commuter trains will stop at Coquitlam station and passengers will have to transfer to buses for a connection to Skytrain.
TransLink also says it's uncertain if the derailment will be cleared in time for the afternoon rush.
