After the hearing, Orville Mader, 54, pushed past reporters and cameramen outside the courthouse without comment.

His lawyer, Brian Coleman, said police in Canada are investigating Mader for "a bunch of other charges."

Details of the Canadian investigations are not clear, but the Thai government has said it will seek to extradite Mader to face a sexual abuse charge.

Canada has an extradition treaty with Thailand but Canadian sex-tourism laws allow citizens to be tried in this country for crimes committed abroad.

Previously, Coleman said Thai authorities have yet to start the legal process to extradite Mader, but his client will "absolutely" fight any extradition attempt.

Mader was the subject of an international manhunt after Thai police issued an arrest warrant for him in October amid allegations he abused an eight-year-old boy in Pattaya, a coastal city known for its sex trade.

Mader was arrested at the Vancouver airport Nov. 1, after he stepped off a plane from Asia, but was later granted bail.
