Police in B.C.'s Lower Mainland are investigating a suspicious death after a man in his 40s was found by ambulance workers in New Westminster late Friday.

Upon arriving at the scene, ambulance attendants found a man suffering from life threatening injuries.

He was subsequently transported to Royal Columbian hospital but died as a result of his injuries a short time later.

Investigators have not made any links to other recent homicides in the Lower Mainland.

Corporal Dale Carr of the Integrated Homicide Investigation team said so far there is nothing to suggest the death was gang-related but said it is suspicious.

"He died as a result of injuries that just aren't consistent with a natural death", Carr said.

Police are attempting to identify the victim and are canvassing the area looking for any clues connected with this case.
