A former judge jailed for sex crimes against aboriginal girls is seeking parole that could allow him back on the street within weeks.

In 2004, David Ramsay was sent to prison for breach of trust, sexual assault causing bodily harm and buying sex from minors — the youngest just 12-years-old at the time.

David Ramsay, now 64, will appear before a National Parole Board hearing on Sept. 11.David Ramsay, now 64, will appear before a National Parole Board hearing on Sept. 11.

Ramsay has asked the National Parole Board to release him to live in a halfway house on day parole. The board is expected to make its decision Sept. 11.

"The board members will want to know if he participated in any treatment programs, what he derived from that … looking for insight, responsibility, change in his behaviour and attitude. So that will come out at the hearing," board spokesman Brian Chase told CBC News.

Parole board officials would not say how Ramsay has spent his time in prison or where he'd like to live if he's released.

During the trial, Ramsay admitted to picking up the girls on the streets of Prince George and taking them into the woods where he paid for sex.

Several times the encounters turned violent. On one occasion he smashed a 16-year-old's head into a car's dashboard, and then sexually assaulted her when she tried to get him to use a condom.

The four victims were all addicted to drugs and worked as prostitutes in Prince George. Three of them had appeared in Ramsay's courtroom before and after the assaults.

The parole board rejected a request to hold the hearing in B.C. where Ramsay committed his crimes, opting instead for Dorchester, N.B., where he's serving time.
