A B.C. provincial court judge on Friday found three teenagers guilty of assaulting a Surrey teen who was left a quadriplegic for life after an attack last October.

Michael Levy, 19, arrived at a Surrey courthouse in a motorized wheelchair to hear the verdict in the trial of the four teenagers accused of the attack.

The judge found three teenagers, all 17, guilty of aggravated assault and assault with a weapon. The fourth, accused of being an accessory to the crime, was acquitted.

Levy was beaten with a beer bottle, pepper-sprayed and struck with a hatchet three times at a dance at the Surrey Tynehead Hall on Oct. 28.

The hatchet cut through his spinal cord, leaving him a quadriplegic.

Levy's mother, Deborah, and sister, Crystal, said the family plans to argue that the youths should be sentenced as adults.

"I hope that they do ask for adult sentencing. It wasn't a youth crime. It was a man's inhumanity against another man," Crystal Levy said.

Sentencing arguments start Sept. 10.

Meanwhile, Levy said he's positive about his recovery and he wants to go to school.

"It's good. I'm getting better," he said. "I might go in for a couple of more surgeries on my arms to make me stronger."
