The Jim Pattison Broadcast Group has bought Penticton radio station CIGV-FM, also known as Great Valleys Radio.

The country music station, which billed itself as the Okanagan Valley's only independent radio outlet, had been owned by the Ralph Robinson family since it hit the airwaves in 1981.

Pattison Broadcast president Rick Arnish says his company has a lot to offer CIGV, including financial and programming resources, adding Pattison wants to make CIGV the best radio station in Western Canada.

The Pattison Group owns 28 radio stations and three TV stations in British Columbia and Alberta.

The sale is still subject CRTC Approval.
