Delta civic workers ratified a deal on Wednesday night that gives them a wage increase of 17.5 per cent over five years.

Delta's new collective agreement shares the same wage and term as the deal reached by the City of Richmond and its civic workers.

"Direct talks with our employer are what opened the door for real bargaining to take place," said Darryl Robison, president of CUPE 454.

"They were able to hear our issues and we were able to hear theirs, because local people are interested in local issues and we all share and care for the same community."

Surrey and Burnaby reached tentative agreements with their civic workers Tuesday and Monday, respectively. Both of their bargaining committees recommended ratification of the settlements.

CUPE Local 23, representing 2,000 civic workers in Burnaby, is expected to vote later this week, while CUPE Local 402, representing 1,500 civic workers in Surrey, will vote on Aug. 7.

As of 10 p.m. Wednesday, there was no word of any progress in the Vancouver labour dispute.

The District of North Vancouver is in talks with its striking civic workers but there's a media blackout.
