Northern Health Authority officials say they're confident the Prince George hospital is secure, despite the attack on a doctor who was beaten and robbed while working there on Sunday morning.
Hospital spokesman Mike Hickey said images from some of the facility's 87 security cameras helped police identify a suspect, who is now in custody.
Hickey called the weekend attack "highly unusual" and said the hospital is "pretty safe" for people working there.
"We have two guards on 24 hours a day; we have the cameras in place; we're working with a consultant now, who is doing some work with us right across the region to look and see if we need to have more security on site or any security on site."
The head of the Northern Medical Society said violence in hospitals is nothing new, noting that nurses face continuing violence.
"One of our own being attacked like that is disquieting for sure," Dr. Bert Kelly said. "Our nursing colleagues are a lot more open to it than our physicians, and they suffer abuse from patients on a fairly regular basis."
The doctor suffered facial injuries when he was attacked from behind and had his head covered by a hood before being punched and robbed. He's now back at work.
Police have charged a local man with assault, robbery and uttering threats in connection with the attack.
