The British Columbia Lottery Corp. is blaming a computer glitch for its online lottery number-checker giving out wrong results in the last two months and wants to help lottery ticket holders who may have lost out as a result.

Ticket holders who used the checking tool, which is available on B.C. Lottery-affiliated websites, were always told their numbers did not match the winning numbers, even if there was a match.

The corporation admitted that the online number-checker was not working from Feb. 8 until March 30.

Nearly 2,800 players used the service during that period, B.C. Lottery Corp. spokesman Paul Smith said Thursday, adding that the corporation has kept a list of the affected people's internet protocol addresses.

"We're certainly asking people to call in if they use the number-checker, and then we'll look at what we can do to help them determine whether they had a winning ticket or not," he said.

Smith added that the glitch did not affect players who checked the winning numbers on the corporation's official website, bclc.com
