An RCMP officer in the Vancouver suburb of Richmond is the focus of an investigation relating to child pornography, CBC News has learned.

The same Mountie is being investigated in connection with possible unsafe storage of firearms at home and at work.

No charges have been laid and nothing has been proved in court.

The officer was arrested just over a week ago and was released pending a court appearance. It is not clear when that will happen.

Cpl. Peter Thiessen, media relations officer at the Richmond detachment, said on Tuesday that the case is being taken seriously and has become a criminal investigation. He stressed that it involves allegations, not proven facts.
