Most of Vancouver's Stanley Park was reopened Sunday, about two weeks after a heavy windstorm swept through the park and caused extensive damage.

The storm's winds of up to 120 km/h toppled thousands of massive, ancient trees, leaving a massive mess to clean up.

Vancouver's Mayor, Sam Sullivan, has asked the federal and B.C. governments for financial help to get the park back in shape.

Sullivan also encouraged Vancouver residents and visitors to come back to the park.

The Vancouver Aquarium, located in the park, has seen a 20 per cent decrease in visitors since the storm.

Park board officials say it will cost $2 million to restore the park. The board has launched a fundraising campaign.

It has asked people to donate money this Christmas season to buy new trees for the park.
