Power outages plague tiny B.C. community

Residents of Eastgate near Manning Park say they're getting tired of the recurring power outages that have been hurting business in the community since early November.
Bob Oldford, who is one of about 30 full-time residents and runs a bed and breakfast, says winter storms have led to the Interior community approaching a total of 400 hours without electricity.
He complains the on-again, off-again outages make it difficult for his small business, with many cancellations, as well as people asking for some of their money back.
"Folks that think we're a big resort or something that would like discounts. But it's pretty hard to accommodate them on that."
Oldford said he's been trying to keep the lights on with generators, but that's proving to be expensive, at a cost of about $30 a day.
Don Robertson, who owns a cabin in Eastgate, said he's worried he may have to make refunds for the "worst year" he's ever endured.
Robertson says he thinks the power outages will continue all winter.
He and Oldford would like to see B.C. Hydro bring in a large generator to power the community, something it did 10 years ago when faced with a similar problem.
