Police are releasing few details of a shooting in New Westminster Monday evening that left a woman dead.

Officers were called to a home at 1931 London St. just before 7 p.m. by a caller who reported hearing shots fired.

When they arrived, they found the woman and called paramedics who pronounced her dead at the scene.

In a written release, New Westminster police spokesman Staff Sgt. Casey Dehaas said the woman's name is not being released pending notification of next of kin.

He also said police do not plan to release any details of the shooting "to preserve the integrity of the investigation."

The Lower Mainland's integrated homicide investigation team is in charge of the case, which is New Westminster's second homicide of the year.
