Two youngsters from B.C. are among 44 Canadian children meeting Prime Minister Stephen Harper in Ottawa on Tuesday as part of a campaign to press for more funding for Type 1 diabetes research.

Claire Longcraft, 11, of West Vancouver says she knows exactly what she'll tell Harper and the other MPs she meets on the trip, which was sponsored by the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

She says the "main goals on this trip is to get them to know the difference between Type 1 and Type 2, raise money for the research for the cure."

Six-year-old Kennan Ast of Cranbrook says it's important to lobby for more funding for Type 1.

"Someone has to say something so people can find a cure."

Type 1 is the most severe form of the disease, causing the body's immune system to destroy insulin-producing cells.

The research foundation says not enough research money is going towards finding a cure, and hope the children can convince the decision-makers to commit $25 million a year over five years.
