The RCMP say the man shot dead by police last week at a Burnaby gas station had pulled a replica handgun on officers, not a real gun.

Daniel Antony King, 37, of Pitt Meadows, was killed early Friday morning after a stolen car chase through Coquitlam and New Westminster, and then into Burnaby.

Police investigate at the scene of the shooting on Friday.

King had been boxed in by police cars at the gas station at Canada Way and Edmunds and had tried to ram one of the cruisers.

Police say two officers shot King after he got out of the car holding what appeared to be a real weapon.

He was taken to Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster where he died.

The RCMP say King was known to police.
