Vancouver police say three homeless men have been stabbed since early September in a series of unprovoked attacks in the downtown area.
Spokesman Const. Tim Fanning called the three separate incidents since Sept. 2 "unusual and troubling."
In each case, the suspect, believed to be an Asian male in his mid-30s or early 40s, approaches a homeless man, slashes him with an "edged weapon" and runs away, Fanning said Monday.
A police composite sketch shows a suspect in the stabbings of three homeless people in downtown Vancouver.
Fanning said the vicious attacks happened on the open street. There were many witnesses in each case.
However, investigators have yet to make an arrest and Fanning said police are asking for public assistance. The most recent attack occurred Friday.
"We are hoping that somebody out there in the public will know of this person," Fanning said.
"Maybe he's talked about these incidents to somebody and we can get a lead on this and find out who this person is."
The victims were all seriously hurt but are expected to recover.
