For the second time in less than a week, a train derailed in the Lytton area of B.C.'s Fraser Canyon.

Nine CN Rail cars carrying grain went off the tracks Friday at about 6:45 a.m. PT.

There were no injuries.

CN spokesman Jim Feeny said the accident happened about 10 kilometres south of the village, near a track interchange.

It happened just hours after a Thursday night meeting between Lytton residents and CN officials, with the residents asking what the company is doing to stop the derailments.

Lytton Mayor Chris O'Connor told CBC Radio the latest accident raises more questions about the company's safety practices.

"It flies in the face of CN's claim that they have reduced accidents this year, and that they're practising good maintenance," he said.

"The message really from our community is that we understand these railways are important. However, it puts the community in jeopardy and we're going to be the ones left to deal with it."

O'Connor said Lytton residents just want to stay safe.

A 124-car Canadian Pacific coal train derailed Monday night on a bridge near Lytton.
