A 34-year-old woman faces four charges following a police chase that began in Vancouver and ended in tragedy in neighbouring Richmond.

The RCMP allege that Sherri Lynn Gehring, who's from Vancouver but is of no fixed address, was responsible for a crash that claimed one life at the intersection of Shell Road and Cambie Street early Tuesday morning.

Police in Vancouver say they initially gave chase after spotting a woman who was driving, in violation of her bail conditions.

Police say she wouldn't pull over and fled to Richmond where she again refused to stop, ran a red light and struck a minivan, killing its driver.

Gehring has now been charged with:

  • Dangerous driving causing death in Richmond.
  • Flight from police causing death in Richmond.
  • Dangerous driving in Vancouver.
  • Flight from police in Vancouver.

The victim has been identified as Frankie Lam of Richmond. Lam, who was in his early 50s, is survived by his wife and two children.
