A cyclist has been killed at a busy intersection in East Vancouver.

The man, in his 60s, was hit by a semi-trailer at the corner of Clark Drive and North Grandview Highway on Friday.

Const. Howard Chow said it appeared the cyclist, whose name has not been released, was heading westbound when he was hit by the truck, which was going north on Clark.

Chow said there is a stop sign, and investigators are trying to determine whether the cyclist stopped. Police are appealing to any witnesses who may have seen what happened to call them.

The number of fatalities on Vancouver streets is up sharply, Chow said, with 22 deaths so far this year — an increase of almost 50 per cent over this time last year.
