Vancouver police say the shooting deaths of two young men — the city's most recent murders — were not random and may be linked to the drug trade.

The body of a 22-year-old Burnaby man was found on East 55th Avenue near David Thompson Secondary School on Tuesday morning.

Less than 12 hours later, police found the body of 19-year-old Michael Minh Tien Ngo of Vancouver in the Fraser River at the foot of Kent Street.

"A man was out walking and discovered a body in the reeds on the shore of the Fraser River," said Const Tim Fanning, a police spokesman.

An injured Ngo was seen leaving the shooting scene at the school in a car driven by a third person.  Police say it appears he was driven down to the river and dumped.

Homicide investigators say they still don't know if the two victims shot each other, or were killed by someone else.

The name of the Burnaby man has not been released at the request of his family.

Fanning says both men were well known to police.

They are Vancouver's 15th and 16th murder victims this year.
