The RCMP say they've smashed a huge identity theft ring in Coquitlam – arresting two men and seizing the tools of their trade.

Police recovered thousands of stolen house, car and mail box keys; credit cards; bank statements and ID cards from the men's homes.

That ID included birth certificates, social insurance cards and B.C. Care medical cards.

RCMP spokesperson Const. Dave Babineau says they also found manuals to reprogram bank machines, equipment to reset locks, key-cutting equipment plus weapons.

The thieves had also stolen Canada Post uniforms and keys to Canada Post mail boxes.

Canada Post spokesperson Bob Taylor says people can help protect themselves by not letting mail sit in their mailboxes

Taylor says he doesn't believe that a security breach at Canada Post could be the problem.
