Police say the charges stem from the arrest of a 23-year-old man following an alleged disturbance at the Stone Temple nightclub back on June 5.

"During the arrest and removal of that person, a Taser was used, and it is alleged that there was an inappropriate use of force at that time," said police spokesperson Const. Howard Chow.

The victim suffered minor injuries during the incident – which was investigated by the police department's Internal Investigation Section

Its report then went to the Crown Counsel's office which filed the charges.

Chow says Lowe was taken off street duties after the alleged incident. "While the investigation was on-going, the officer was re-assigned to administrative or office duty and continues to work in this capacity."

Lowe is 28 years old and has been a Vancouver police officer for three years.
