Pickets went up Friday at Kwantlen College campuses on the Lower Mainland, as part of the rotating strike action by college support workers.

All classes at Kwantlen were cancelled for the day. And the rotating strike will shut down all BCIT campuses on Monday.

The rotating strikes by the members of the B.C. Government and Service Employees' Union resumed on Thursday at Northern Lights College – following a breakdown in mediated talks on Tuesday.

The college support workers are locked in a contract dispute with five B.C. post-secondary institutions – BCIT, Kwantlen College, Douglas College, Northwest College and Northern Lights College.

They want a pay increase of seven per cent over a four-year contract. The government is offering them a wage freeze.

The union says that's not good enough, because the workers have gone without any pay increases in five of the past seven years.
