A 31-year-old visitor from New Zealand recently set a new record for the Grouse Grind – making the popular climb in just 24 minutes and 22 seconds.

Three-time world mountain running champion Jonathan Wyatt tackled the steep 2.9-kilometre Grind while he was in Vancouver back on June 12.

His new unofficial record trumps Canadian Derek Reed, who finished the climb in 27 minutes and 18 seconds back in 1997.

The women's record of 32:54 was set by Kelly Matoul in 2002.

The average for going up the Grind is about 90 minutes, and beginners are advised to give themselves about two hours.
