Premier Gordon Campbell has announced plans for a series of hydrogen-fuelling stations between Vancouver, Victoria and Whistler.

Speaking at the Globe conference on business and the environment, Campbell said it's part of a plan to make the 2010 Winter Olympics the most sustainable games in history.




"You could arrive at the Vancouver airport, you could be transferred to a hydrogen-driven bus that would take you up to Whistler.

"You could be re-fuelled in Whistler and come back and there would be absolutely no impact on the environment whatsoever," says the premier.




Another report suggests the hydrogen highway could even stretch all the way to Los Angeles by the 2010 Games.

Campbell says he wants to use the Olympics to promote hydrogen energy. And he has called on other countries hosting international events to follow suit.

"If we take that critical mass of global events that bring people together, and show them the new uses of this new energy source in transportation and moving people around, I think we may find the critical mass of activity that breaks that technology through."

Campbell also says there are plans to build an environmentally-sustainable Olympic athletes village.
