A suspect dubbed the "Smiling Bandit" has been arrested by police for a series of bank robberies in Vancouver and Burnaby, B.C.

Police put out an appeal for tips on Thursday afternoon, and arrested a man around 8:30 p.m. the same night after a 10th robbery at a TD Bank at 4994 Kingsway Avenue in Burnaby

"With advances in video technology, evidence collection and security measures at banks, it's not a matter of if you will be caught for robbing a bank, it's a matter of when," said Sgt. Randy Fincham.

In nine of the robberies last month, police say the man told bank staff he was armed.

Police say the identity of the arrested will not be released until charges are approved by Crown counsel.

Police believe this man is responsible for 10 bank robberies in the last month. (Vancouver Police Department)
